Benefits and support for carers

If you are looking after someone regularly, including your spouse or a family member, because they're ill or disabled, you are a carer.

Financial Support

As a carer, you may be entitled to one or more state benefits to help you with the costs. These include Carer's Allowance, Carer's Credit, Carer Premium and Disability Living Allowance for children.

You can also use the Carers Trust Benefits calculator to work out what you might be entitled to.

Carers UK provides information across a whole range of financial issues that carers may face, including benefits, health costs, debt and pensions

If you are caring for someone with dementia, the Alzheimer's Society provides lots of advice and support

Carers Assessment

If you look after someone you have the right to ask for a Carer's Assessment at any time.  A Carer's Assessment looks at the impact your caring responsibilities have on your life and what social care support you might be eligible for.

If you are eligible for support from socail care, your needs could be met by a range of options, including paid services and services provided by the voluntary sector. If you are not eligible, you can get information and advice on where you can get the help you want.

Contact Carers Support Merton for further advice about a Carers Assessment at info@csmerton.org or call 020 8646 7515.
