Project SEARCH
A supported internship programme run jointly by St George's Hospital, Cricket Green School and Action on Disability. We prepare young people with learning difficulties and disabilities for the world of work.
Project SEARCH is a nine month long training and employment opportunity for adults aged 18-24 with a learning difficulty which takes place entirely at the St George’s Hospital site. Project SEARCH provides real life work experience combined with training in employability and independent living skills, as well as formulating a CV, to help young people with learning difficulties to make successful transitions from school to productive adult life. The goal for each student is competitive employment somewhere in the community using the skills they have acquired at St George’s.
Trainees undertake 3 x 10 week placements within hospital departments such as porters, post room, catering, gardening, sterile services, and medical records. They are provided with support from a job coach as well as trained departmental mentors. Individual timetables will be agreed for each placement
Learning takes place in a classroom at the hospital and primarily consists of employability skills practise and functional English and Maths.
Independent travel is desirable; we encourage our students to be as independent as possible in readiness for paid work.
