Local Offer

Description

We provide an inclusive setting and all children are valued and respected.  Our behaviour Policy includes guidance on our expectations and procedures to follow.
All Staff have a basic awareness of special needs and specialised training is available if needed. All staff will use simple language when communicating with children supported by visual signs and Signalong. The SEN Co-ordinator is available to provide advice and support to staff to meet a child’s needs.
We provide a secure and rigorous settling in procedure and consistent key person approach to secure attachments. We run a social skills group for those children who may need emotional and social support. Language groups for children with delayed language and that also have English as an additional language. We work closely with parents to make sure we are working together to meet the emotional and social needs of the child.
The activities planned are age/needs appropriate and can be adapted to the specific needs of the child. Some activities provided will relate to your child’s SEN Support Plan. Advice received from external agencies will be included in these targets enabling activities to be differentiated and broken down into small achievable steps. SEN Support Plans are monitored and reviewed every 6 weeks by the Key person and SEN Co-ordinator. Parents are invited to each meeting to discuss the targets and also the child’s development; Strategies to achieve targets are set out on the SEN Support plan to enable you to support your child at home. If we feel a child is still not making progress despite extra support and evidence to support, we can request advice from the Local Authority.  With parents’ permission we can complete an Inclusion referral to request further support. The settings SenCo will work with the advice from reports provided by external agencies such as Educational Psychologist, Speech and Language, OT, Physio, and Merton Inclusion officers to support a child.  To ensure parents fully understand the terminology used, where possible literature is offered to explain the use of language.
We have a close relationship with the local Children Centres and can advise parents/carers how to access activities and support in the local area. The settings SenCo is also able to refer parents to the children centre groups if needed.
The setting will support your child when they transfer to a new school or settings by providing support to children during a transition period. All reports and information is shared with the new setting. Where possible transition meetings are set up to provide an opportunity to share information and strategies to support the child. The new setting can be invited to view the child in the setting.
Visits can be set up with the child to visit the new setting to support the transition.
A social story book with photos of the new setting can be requested to support transition.
