Law / EHCP Workshop with Erin Smart, Education Solicitor

Law / EHCP Workshop with Erin Smart, Education Solicitor

Some children with special educational needs (SEN) in England need more help than a mainstream school, college or nursery would normally provide at the level of SEN support. These pupils receive support through an Education, Health, and Care (EHC) plan. An EHCP is a legal document that describes a child or young person’s special educational needs, the support they need, and the outcomes they would like to achieve.

This workshop session will look in detail at a child or young person’s EHCP. This will include the process of obtaining one from request for assessment to finalisation. We will also discuss the contents of an EHCP and the wording required to make these legally enforceable. We hope to allow ample time at the end for questions. The presentation portion of this session will be recorded and made available to all attendees alongside slides and any other resources.

Erin specialises in Education law and leads the Public Law Human Rights team for Irwin Mitchell in Gatwick. She specialises in assisting parents, carers and young people with appeals to the Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal.
