Towards Employment - opportunities for young people

Due to Covid-19 all non-essential recruitment has been put on hold currently. We are still supporting residents into employment as and when vacancies arise.

If you are interested in any of these opportunities, then please email your CV to towardsemployment@merton.gov.uk  In your email, please tell us which of the opportunities you are interested in. See the section at the foot of this page on availability for details of priority and eligibility criteria.

CSCS Construction Course

If you are aged 16+ and interested in construction you can apply to:

  • take a 5 day course and gain your Construction Skills Certification Scheme card that will allow you to work in the construction industry
  • get up to £50 of vouchers of your choice
  • get guaranteed job interviews

Domiciliary Care Worker

Are you aged 16 – 25? Then you could:

  • support children and young people with all areas of their lives including personal care, moving and handling and development of independent living skills
  • get up to £20 a day of vouchers during training
  • get a guaranteed interview for live jobs

Note that an enhanced DBS check will be undertaken before you can begin in this role

Business Support Apprentice

Are you aged 16+? Then you could:

  • become a Business Support Apprentice
  • have a starting salary of £19,203 a year

Social Media Apprentice

If you are aged 16+ and have an interest in social media you could:

  • become a Social Media Apprentice
  • have a minimum salary of £15,000 a year 

Veolia Driver Apprentice Pathway

Are you aged at between 17 years and 6 months and 25? Do you have a keen interest in driving and want to learn to drive?

The you could become an Driver Apprentice. Join our Driver Apprenticeship Pathway and we will pay for a provisional driving licence, theory test and driving lessons

Tooting and Mitcham FC

If you are aged 18+ you could get:

  • paid employment
  • part-time bar or cleaning work

Apprentice GP Administrator

  • Age 16+   
  • Minimum salary of £15,000 per annum

Train to be a lifeguard

Do you have a keen interest in swimming or a willingness to learn. Are you aged 16+? If so, then this local opportunity could be for you. Minimum salary of £16,000 per annum

Trainee Letting agent

Do you a clean driving licence and excellent communication skills? Are you 17+?  Then this opportunity could be for you. Starting salary of £20000 per annum

Cleaning Operative (part time)

  • 18+
  • Minimum salary £15000

Catering assistant (Part time -  Term time only)

  • 18+
  • Enhanced DBS required
  • Minimum salary £15000

Referral Details

We are happy to help anyone, but priority is given to any young Merton resident who:

  • has been in care
  • is or was known to the youth offending service
  • left school without gaining a level 2 qualification in English and maths (got less than a grade C at GCSE)
  • is a teenage parent
  • is homeless or lives in a hostel

You do not need to tell us if you fit into any of the above groups if you do not want to, but we will be unable to prioritise you for opportunities if we do not have this information. You should not include this information in you CV or any application but can include it in your email sent to towardsemployment@merton.gov.uk
