Taxicard is a method of providing subsidised door-to-door transport for people who have serious mobility impairment and difficulty in using public transport. Taxicard holders make journeys in licensed London taxis and the subsidy applies directly to each trip.

You will be automatically eligible to join if receive the higher rate of the Disability Living Allowance or are registered blind. If you are not in these two categories, you will need to get your doctor to certify your eligibility or undergo an interview / assessment. You can download an application form for Merton's scheme from the London Taxicard website.

How it works: you telephone the taxi contractor operating the scheme to book a taxi. Alternatively, you can use a taxi rank or hail a taxi in the street. At the end of the journey, you pay the driver the flat fare which has been determined by London Borough of Merton which is �1.50 for every journey. The council will subsidize up to a maximum of a further �10.30 for each journey
