The referral process for a student to access education at Jus‘T’Learn Independent School is via a student’s mainstream school, alternative education provider or Local Education Authority. The decision to refer a student is made through discussions with the family, student and either the referring school/alternative education provider/Local Education Authority and Jus‘T’Learn Independent School.
A referral form is completed by the referring agency highlighting the reason for the referral together with the student’s curriculum information; attendance information; other agencies working with the student/family; medical needs etc. Meetings and interviews are then arranged prior to admission to Jus‘T’Learn Independent School. Students are admitted to Jus‘T’Learn Independent School throughout the school year.
Jus‘T’Learn is an OFSTED registered Independent School (Alternative Provision) that provides education for students in KS4 who are at risk from permanent exclusion from mainstream schools; who need a few days away from mainstream education; Students who are finding coping in large classes difficult or need a change of learning environment. The daily routines and expectations mirror a mainstream school. The learning programmes are academic, although students are taught in smaller groups of up to six with a maximum of 12 in Year 11. 1:1 teaching, if appropriate is also available. Students can follow a straight GCSE course or a combination of GCSE and Functional Skills (Entry Level/Level 1/Level 2).
Examination subjects currently taught are: English Language; English Literature; Mathematics; Science including Physics, Biology, Chemistry; ICT; History; Geography; Religious Studies; Languages including; French; German; Spanish; Media Studies; Sociology; Functional Skills.
Other subjects include: Personal, Social and Health Education; Physical Education. Life Skills is taught throughout the curriculum. ESOL English/Literacy; ESOL Mathematics /Numeracy
