Description

We have a SENCO who has undertaken a wide range of training to enable them to work in partnership with parents and professionals and put strategies in place to ensure children with SEN have positive outcomes whilst in our setting.

We also provide a range of training courses for staff within our setting, to support their skills to meet the needs of children with SEN, which has included:-

  • Supporting children’s language and communication
  • Supporting children’s behaviour
  • Supporting children with social communication difficulties
  • Supporting children with ASD

Our staff use a range of different strategies to meet children’s individual special educational needs which includes:-

  • Small group work to encourage children’s listening and understanding using visual props
  • Small group work to support children’s developing vocabulary/speech
  • Small group work to support children’s interactions with their peers and encourage turn taking
  • Small group work to support children’s joint attention
  • Individualised support for short periods during the session to work on targets set by occupational therapists, speech and language therapists and educational psychologists
  • Use of visual timetables, visual props, objects of reference and sings to support children’s understanding of the routines, what will happen next, and encourage children to make a choice

Our environment is purpose built and we have wheelchair access and accessible toilets and nappy changing areas.
